Without agreed boundaries there will be conflict. Just as a confusion of language caused the people to scatter from Babel, confusions of personal interest may cause a breakdown in society leading to genetic under-classes and discrimination.

Reviews
'Moore explains the science involved clearly and accessibly. An excellent place to start for anyone who wants to think intelligently about these questions. Brilliant, clear explanation of genetic technology.'
Christianity & Renewal April 2001 (Tony Watkins)
'a superbly written account of the history and limitations of current knowledge about gene techniques used in reproductive biology and medicine. Moore was a physiologist studying foetal and neonatal development before turning to full-time science journalism, and he knows his stuff. He also has a flair for apt analogies to explain complex issues for a general readership........'
New Scientist, 2 December 2000
'The author writes very attractively and, without fudging the arguments, handles complex ideas in a way that is easy to follow and understand.'
The Rt Revd John Habgood
'This is a highly readable exploration of the ethical issues now opened up by our new genetic knowledge, with an awareness of the dangers as well as the opportunities of this.'
The Rt Revd Richard Harries
'An excellent, comprehensible and comprehensive book about a current issue, — how will society use the new genetic technologies that are emerging?… It is attractively presented, written on good quality paper with clear typeface, with excellent binding and carefully presented illustrations. There is in-depth discussion of issues which will challenge the geneticist, ethicist, clinician and theologian, hopefully leading to a useful dialogue on scientific and religious matters. The author achieves his purpose in presenting this complex subject in an understandable way.'
